Function information:

The European Historical Population Samples Network (EHPS-Net) seeks a Technical Writer (for a scientific environment) to develop documentation for historical demographic databases and computer applications for data management and analysis.  The EHPS-Net brings together scholars to create a common format for databases containing non-aggregated information on persons, families and households. This format or Intermediate Data Structure (IDS) aims to form an integrated and joint interface between many European databases in order to transcend the currently regional and national studies (see http://www.ehps-net.eu). This position will help EHPS researchers, programmers, and database administrators to produce documentation in existing templates for the benefit of future users of the data and programs.  Documentation must be written in a way that is complete and understandable to researchers in the field. The location of the work is still open since the work can be done remotely.

Job requirements:

You have a Master degree in a relevant academic field such as statistics, demography, research with historical sources, informatics, or equivalent experience.

You have proven knowledge and experience with management and analysis of research data. In addition you have working knowledge of database management tools (SQL, Access & Oracle) and statistical analysis packages (Stata & SAS).

You are able to organize and complete complex tasks and have the ability and experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Excellent written and oral communications skills in English are required.

Contract and salary:

The duration of this position with the Stichting IISG is for a period of 6 months on a project basis. The gross monthly salary (€ 2,427 - € 3,831, -) (scale 10 CAO-Dutch Universities) based on a 38-hour workweek and experience. The IISH offers an extensive package of fringe benefits, such as 8,3 %  year-end bonus, 8% holiday pay, a good pension scheme, 6 weeks holiday on an annual basis and the possibility to buy or sell vacation hours.
